Medical Models are custom physical reproductions of anatomy from CT, CBCT, MRI, photogrammetry or surface scan data. They are used to rehearse surgeries, to communicate procedures to patients, as in-theatre visual references or as jigs to assist the shaping of off-the-shelf implants. We use CE-marked scan-data processing software – validated for clinical use. Models are fabricated using Additive Manufacturing (or “3D Printing”) technologies.
We can receive DICOM data by post, and now digitally via the secure Image Exchange Portal (IEP). See our New Product Request & Customer Setup form below for details on how to setup a secure digital link between your PACS system and PDR.
Best turnaround time is one day from receipt of data to model dispatch.

To make an enquiry, please follow the simple steps outlined below.

Call us or email us with the details in our New Product Request Form.

Via secure DICOM data upload (see page 6 of our New Product Request Form to setup a secure digital link between your PACS system and PDR) or send by post (on CD or DVD) to:
Surgical & Prosthetic Design
Cardiff Metropolitan University
Llandaff Campus
200 Western Avenue
(If the disc is encrypted, the password should be sent separately through the post or emailed to [email protected]).

Upon receipt of the data and requisition form details, PDR will prepare a quotation and design proposal which will be sent to the provided email address or fax number.  If we need to clarify your desired model extents, model type, or modifications, you will receive an email and images to review first.
Prices are entirely dependent on the size and nature of each individual case.
Modifications or reconstructions incur a small extra charge – varying depending on complexity.
At this stage, the designs for your device(s) should be thoroughly reviewed by the prescribing / operating surgeon and either approved, or a request for revisions made to PDR.
After building and post-processing, your model will be dispatched by TNT, DHL, or Royal Mail for domestic locations (DHL only for international addresses).  The package will include the model, patient data (if sent via CD-ROM), materials data-sheet, model extents printout and a delivery note.
